Standard ABS module
Same manufacturer, three different modules
Toyota does not fit the same ABS to all its cars: depending on the model and year, yours has one module or another.
-
Standard ABS module
The standard ABS fitted to most Toyota models: hydraulic unit, pump and control unit in a single block. We remanufacture it in full and keep its original coding.

ECB
The brake system of Toyota hybrids and several Lexus models: a control unit splits braking between the electric motor and the brakes, using pressure from an electric pump and an accumulator.

HBB
Hydraulic brake servo: instead of engine vacuum, an electric pump charges an accumulator with brake fluid, and that pressure is what assists you when braking.

WHY DOES IT FAIL?
Toyota ABS fault symptoms
Spotting a Toyota ABS fault in time can prevent accidents and bigger repairs. The Toyota ABS warning light on in the instrument cluster is the warning we hear about most at the workshop, but it rarely comes alone: a Toyota ABS sensor that stops sending a signal, insufficient battery voltage or a control unit that misreads the signal it receives can end up causing a Toyota ABS malfunction. The most common signs of a faulty ABS on a Toyota are:
ABS warning light on
The Toyota ABS warning light stays on in the instrument cluster, often together with the VSC system light, which the engine ECM can deactivate as a precaution and log as the informational code C1201.
Internal ABS module fault
The scanner logs several ABS codes at once, such as C1231 on the Camry, a pattern that points to internal degradation of the control unit’s electronics, not to a sensor or external wiring.
Unpredictable braking
The braking system does not respond as it should. DTC reading and testing of every hydraulic and electronic channel.
Fault caused by low battery voltage
If the voltage drops below 9.5 V during starting, your Toyota’s ABS module logs code C1241 and may deactivate the system, with symptoms of a brake fault even though the unit is not damaged.

TYPICAL TOYOTA ABS FAULTS WE REPAIR
Most common Toyota DTC codes
Informational code: the engine ECM deactivated the ABS/VSC system as a precaution due to a primary engine fault. It can also appear as a direct ABS control fault with faulty wheel speed sensors
Reported alongside other wheel speed sensor codes on the 4Runner
Fault related to the wheel speed sensor circuit
Zero point calibration (deceleration sensor) — related to the acceleration/steering sensor
Frequently appears alongside C1201 when the battery drops below 9.5 V during starting
Reported on the 2011 Camry alongside other ABS codes
Wheel speed sensor fault — can trigger C1201 as a secondary code
Prior faults that can generate C1201 as a consequence
Communication fault between the engine control unit (ECM) and the ABS control unit; check connectors, wiring and battery voltage
Open circuit in the rear left wheel speed sensor: wiring, connector or sensor
ABS pump motor relay circuit open or short-circuited
