ABS MODULE FOR THE S SERIES
S Series models compatible with this repair
Each card shows the braking system fitted to that variant. The S 1000 RR appears four times, and the S 1000 R and the S 1000 XR three times each, because the ABS changed generation during the life of each model. The M 1000 models are here because they share a platform with the S 1000 of their year.
We can't find that model. Escríbenos with the module's part number and we'll tell you if we can repair it.

WHY DOES IT FAIL?
Symptoms of a faulty ABS on the S Series
These are the warnings we hear about most from owners of the S 1000 RR, S 1000 R and S 1000 XR. None of them leaves you without brakes: here the module doesn’t generate pressure, so what you lose is the anti-lock function and, almost always, the traction control with it.
ABS warning light permanently on and self-test that doesn’t start
You switch on the ignition and the symbol stays still, never flashing or going out when you ride off. The unit isn’t responding to the ECU: the sensor has nothing to do with it.
It flashes and then stays on
The self-test starts and cuts out halfway. It is usually the wheel sensor, its wiring or the reluctor ring, which are much cheaper to rule out before touching the module.
ABS and DTC drop out at the same time
Both rely on the same wheel speed signals, so when the unit stops supplying them the bike loses anti-lock braking and traction control on the same ride.
In Rain and Sport the rear brake no longer helps
In those two modes the module itself builds some pressure in the rear brake. If the unit drops out, that assistance disappears and the feel changes only there.
Pump humming or rattling when stationary
With the ignition on and the bike still, the pump motor keeps trying and fails to get what it wants. If you keep riding like that it eventually gives out completely.
After a winter off the road it won’t come back
The valves in the hydraulic unit stick and out-of-date fluid starts attacking the inside. Add to that a weak battery, which cannot give the unit what it asks for when the ignition is switched on.
It stopped working after pressure washing
The jet finds the module connector and the front sensor connector. At first it throws faults that clear once it dries; when verdigris settles on the contacts, the warning light no longer goes out.
It cuts out over a speed bump or a pothole in a bend
A reluctor ring covered in chain lube or a loose sensor sends an impossible signal over the bump. On bikes with ABS Pro, the lean angle sensor can also give an inconsistent value when it bounces, and the system switches itself off until the next ignition cycle.
A single ABS module for the whole S Series
Every ABS fitted to the S Series, from the first S 1000 RR to today’s M 1000 models, is repaired the same way.
-
2008 – present BMW S Series ABS module
The first ABS fitted to the series already had braking assistance in Rain and Sport modes: the module itself builds some pressure in the rear brake. In Race and Slick modes that assistance is switched off. ABS Pro added braking while leaned over: BMW introduced it as a retrofit for the HP4 in October 2014.
Why a single moduleThe S Series is the sportiest range of BMW motorcycles, which is why its ABS units are the most advanced and bring together the most functions. Even so, the repair process is the same for every module they use, so we group them all into a single BMW S Series ABS Module.
What fails insideThe tracks and capacitors on the circuit board after years of thermal cycling and vibration, the valves in the hydraulic unit seized after a long lay-up, and the connector, which on bikes that have done track days arrives with chain lube inside it.
