ABS MODULE FOR THE C SERIES
C Series models compatible with this repair
Each card shows the braking system fitted to that variant. The C 650 GT appears twice because in 2016 it changed unit when traction control was added, and so do the C 400 X and C 400 GT, because from 2025 they have ABS Pro with cornering braking.
We can't find that model. Write to us with the module's part number and we'll tell you if we can repair it.

WHY DOES IT FAIL?
Symptoms of a faulty ABS on the C Series
These are the warnings we hear about most from owners of the C 600 Sport, C 650 GT and C 650 Sport. None of them leaves you without brakes: here the module does not build pressure, so what you lose is anti-lock braking, and you lose it on exactly the vehicle most often ridden in the wet.
ABS warning light solid from the moment you switch on the ignition
It comes on and stays there, without ever flashing or going out when you pull away. The self-test has not even started: the unit is not responding.
It flashes and stays on as you pull away
The self-test starts and cuts out halfway. On these scooters the front sensor sits behind a 15-inch wheel that picks up all the dirt in the city, so start there before touching the module.
The rear wheel locks with the left-hand lever
Here the rear brake is the left-hand lever, and it is the one used most in town. Without anti-lock it locks straight away on a manhole cover or on wet road paint, and you notice it before any warning light.
On the C evolution the engine braking changes too
The same module controls energy regeneration. When it fails, you do not just lose anti-lock braking: the engine braking when you roll off the throttle stops behaving as it always has and the scooter runs on further than you expect.
Pump humming with the ignition on
A short click when you switch on the ignition is the self-test and is normal. A hum that does not stop with the scooter stationary is not: the pump motor keeps trying and eventually gives out.
It only fails on rainy days
The fault comes and goes with the humidity and disappears as soon as the sun comes out. It is the connector starting to build up verdigris, and it is the stage at which it can still be fixed by cleaning rather than rebuilding.
It stopped working after pressure washing
A scooter gets washed more than any other bike, and the jet finds the module connector under the bodywork. At first it throws faults that clear once it dries; then the water corrodes the contacts and the warning light no longer goes out.
It trips over a speed bump on the way out of the garage
A dirty reluctor ring or a loose sensor sends an impossible signal over the bump and the system switches itself off until you switch the ignition on again. In town it happens every day at the same spot.
A single ABS module for the whole C Series
Every ABS fitted to the C Series, from the C1 to today’s C 400 models, petrol or electric, is repaired the same way.
-
1999 – present BMW C Series ABS Module
On the C Series, BMW did not develop its own ABS for its scooters: it fitted the Bosch ABS modules available at the time each one was built. The C1 offered it as an option, with the most basic functions; the C 600 Sport and C 650 had it as standard, with a two-channel Bosch 9M that regulates the front and rear brakes separately; the C evolution uses that same unit with software that splits the braking between the discs and the electric motor’s energy regeneration; and the C 400 X and C 400 GT have gradually added traction control and, from 2025, ABS Pro with cornering braking.
Why a single moduleFrom one generation to the next the part number and the functions change, but the repair process is the same for all of them. That is why we group them into a single BMW C Series ABS Module, with the same price and the same turnaround whatever the year of your scooter.
ModelsC1 125 and C1 200, C 600 Sport, C 650 GT and C 650 Sport, C evolution, and first- and second-series C 400 X and C 400 GT.
What fails insideWhat urban use punishes: short journeys, constant humidity and the hose. The corroded connector, which is where the water gets in and where almost everything starts; the tracks and capacitors on the circuit board after ten or twelve years of humidity; the valves in the hydraulic unit seized after a winter outdoors; and the pump motor when the bike has been ridden on with the warning showing.
