WHY DOES IT FAIL?
AUDI A4 ABS FAULT symptoms
The Audi A4 has no catalogue of ABS fault codes of its own: the fault is identified by the symptoms it causes. The most common on this model are:
ABS warning light on
It stays on permanently, or comes on and goes off intermittently with no clear pattern.
Irregular brake pedal
Longer pedal travel than normal or a hard feel when pressing the pedal.
Inconsistent braking
One wheel brakes earlier or harder than the others, pulling the car to one side.
ESP warning light on
It comes on together with the ABS light because both systems share the same control unit.
Intermittent fault
The warning light goes off and comes back on with no clear pattern, typical of connectors corroded by the age of the vehicle.
Loss of assistance under hard braking
The system does not step in to prevent the wheels from locking under hard braking.
