WHY DOES IT FAIL?

Land Rover ABS fault symptoms

Spotting a Land Rover ABS fault in time can prevent accidents and bigger repairs. The Land Rover ABS warning light coming on in the instrument cluster is the warning we see most often at the workshop, but it rarely comes alone: a Land Rover ABS sensor that stops giving a signal, a worn reluctor ring or a control unit that has taken on moisture after wading can show up in several ways. The most common signs of a faulty ABS on a Land Rover are:

ABS warning light on

The Land Rover ABS warning light stays on in the instrument cluster, often alongside the brake and traction control warning lights.

Intermittent faults after off-road use

Wading and heavy off-road use let moisture into the control unit and its connectors, and the fault can take weeks to appear: the unit logs C1A94-13, a general electrical fault with an open circuit in the front right sensor.

Unpredictable braking

The braking system does not respond as it should. DTC reading and testing of every hydraulic and electronic channel.

Loss of communication with the instrument cluster

The unit logs U0155-87 and your Land Rover’s ABS module stops sending data properly to the rest of the vehicle: strange warning lights appear on the dashboard even though the instrument cluster has no real fault.

Nuestro cliente y nosotros estamos infinitamente agradecidos.

Well, 3 months ago they repaired a Seat León module for me, and from the very first moment they treated me in a super professional way. They were quick with the repair and practical with collecting the part and delivering it. No problems so far, I recommend them one hundred per cent.

frequently asked questions about Land Rover ABS repair

Yes. This code indicates a general electrical fault in the front right sensor circuit, confirmed as common on the Range Rover, but in most cases the cause lies in the control unit itself and it does not require replacing the complete assembly. Repairing the existing module usually solves the problem for a fraction of the cost of a genuine manufacturer replacement.

Although the code points to a loss of communication with the instrument cluster, the cause usually lies in the ABS module, which stops sending data correctly to the rest of the vehicle. That is why strange warning lights can appear on the dashboard (speedometer, ABS, traction control) without the instrument cluster itself having any real fault.

It is one of the most common causes on these models. Wading and heavy off-road use can let moisture into the ABS control unit or its connectors, causing internal electrical faults that sometimes do not appear immediately but weeks after the intensive use.

They correspond to the diagnostic format used in earlier generations of Land Rover, before standardisation with modern OBD-II codes. For example, “45” indicates a problem with the front left reluctor ring and “48” indicates no sensor signal at start-up, both related to the same wheel circuit.

The repair costs roughly a quarter of what a new module would cost, a very significant difference with Land Rover given the high price of its genuine spare parts. What’s more, at Nito Motor there is no upfront payment: you only pay for the service once the unit has been checked, repaired and tested, with a 1-year warranty.

Not necessarily. This code indicates that the ABS control unit is detecting a voltage signal that is not consistent with what is expected, which may be due either to a weak battery or to an internal fault in the module itself when processing that reading. Before investing in a new battery, it is worth checking whether the module behaves correctly with a stable power supply.

We work with the entire Land Rover range, from classic models such as the Discovery I, Discovery II or the Range Rover Classic to the latest ones such as the Defender, Evoque, Velar and Range Rover Sport. If your model isn’t on our list, contact us and we’ll confirm availability.
