M-CLASS MODULE
ABS MERCEDES M-CLASS
We carry out Mercedes ML-Class ABS repair by returning your own ABS control unit remanufactured, with the hydraulic unit and the circuit board restored at a technical repair centre. We cover all three generations of this SUV: the W163 (1997-2005), the W164 (2005-2011) and the W166 (2011-2019, by then marketed as the GLE-Class), in both diesel (270 CDI, 320 CDI, 400 CDI) and petrol (230, 320, 350, 500) versions, with no need to recode the control unit or rely on a breaker’s yard spare of uncertain compatibility. This is the Mercedes ML-Class version for which we repair the ABS module. If you cannot find your car, contact us and we will help you.

WHY DOES IT FAIL?
MERCEDES M-CLASS ABS FAULT symptoms
The Mercedes ML-Class does not show the driver a readable ABS fault code without diagnostic equipment either: the fault is detected by the symptoms it causes. These are the most common across the three generations of this SUV, from the W163 to the W166, made worse by mixed on-road and off-road use:
ABS, ESP and BAS warning lights on at the same time
The clearest sign that the Mercedes ML ABS needs checking is the ABS, ESP and BAS lights all staying lit together in the instrument cluster, sometimes with warning beeps and a harder feel to the brake pedal.
Loss of the 4ETS four-wheel traction system
The ML-Class’s 4ETS does not lock the differentials mechanically: it uses the ABS sensors and valves to brake the spinning wheel and distribute the driving force. If the module fails, this electronic assistance disappears completely and the vehicle’s off-road capability suffers.
Unpredictable braking or longer stopping distance
With anti-lock assistance lost, one or more wheels may lock under hard braking, especially on wet or muddy surfaces or on slopes, noticeably increasing the distance needed to stop the vehicle.
Mercedes ML 350 ABS sensor giving erratic readings
Mixed use on tracks and tarmac causes the Mercedes ML 350 ABS sensor and its magnetic ring to collect mud and moisture, leading to intermittent wheel speed errors that the control unit interprets as a system fault.
Pump motor brush wear in the 270 CDI
This is the most common chronic fault of the Mercedes ML 270 CDI ABS module: the brushes in the Bosch-made hydraulic return pump motor wear with mileage and cause intermittent pressure faults.
Micro-cracks in the circuit board solder joints
The hydraulic unit and the circuit board are shared between the diesel and petrol engines, so a Mercedes ML 320 ABS suffers the same wear of the internal solder joints from engine bay vibration and heat as a diesel does.
