Frequently asked questions
Does the ABS module need to be coded or reprogrammed after the repair?
No. On first-generation BMW ABS modules the repair is carried out on your own original unit, so it keeps its factory coding and configuration. In most cases there is no need to code or reprogram the system after fitting, so you don’t have to rely on the dealer.
What happens if the ABS module can’t be repaired?
If we can’t repair it and don’t offer you a solution, we don’t charge you anything: we return your part to you at no cost whatsoever.
What does the repair price include?

Can I fit the module myself once it has been repaired?
Yes, provided you have the right technical knowledge and tools. The module is returned ready to fit, with no additional programming needed. If you have no previous experience with braking systems, we recommend having it fitted by a professional workshop: bleeding the system correctly is essential for safety.
Can I send the module from anywhere in Spain?
Yes. We offer a collection and delivery service in mainland Spain for an additional €25, and you can also ship it yourself.
Does the repair include a warranty?
Yes. The repair comes with a 12-month certified warranty, with no mileage limit.
Important:
- Nito Motor S.L. will only be liable for the correct operation of the device during that period.
- Nito Motor S.L. will not be liable for the cost of fitting and removing the modulator during the warranty period; this cost will be borne by the workshop or the end customer.
- The warranty will be void if there are clear signs that the ABS module contains any fluid other than brake fluid (water, cleaning solvent…). We recommend never cleaning the module with a pressure washer.
Common faults of the 1st-generation BMW ABS system
First-generation BMW ABS systems suffer from a series of recurring faults, caused mainly by electronic wear and the age of the internal components. These faults don't always appear gradually and, in many cases, they directly affect the safety and operation of the braking system.
Pressure modulator (front): Fault in the front hydraulic circuit or piston.
Pressure modulator (rear): Fault in the rear hydraulic circuit or piston.
Speed sensor (front): Broken wire, dirty sensor or incorrect air gap.
Speed sensor (rear): Broken wire, dirty sensor or incorrect air gap.
Low battery voltage: Battery in poor condition or voltage below 10.5 V.
ABS relay: The typical fault. Power supply to the pistons/pumps fails.
Control unit (ECU): Internal fault in the electronic control unit.
Sensor frequency: (Less common) Interference or fault in the wheel speed signal.
Errors 1 and 2
The most common faults on this ABS are 1 and 2. They are caused by two very powerful solenoids that lose strength over time and prevent the system from working properly. This error appears more easily if the battery is in poor condition or when riding over bumpy ground.
Errors 3 and 4
First check the sensors fitted on the wheels themselves, as well as their distance from the reluctor ring. Only if this is correct should the ABS be checked.
Error 5
Check the battery first; only if it is in perfect condition does the module need to be checked.
Error 6
It is caused by the relay that activates the ABS motor. This component is available as a spare part and is easy to replace, so there is no need to send the whole unit.
Error 7
In most cases it is caused by a short circuit. If it was caused by a handling error, we can check the part and restore it to working order or find a replacement. If not, it is very important to carry out the necessary tests to find the problem on the motorcycle before fitting the remanufactured part.
Error 8
It is usually because one of the wheel speed sensors is sending an incorrect signal and the front wheel speed doesn't match the rear. It can come from the sensors themselves or from the reluctor ring. We have also seen cases where a change of tyre profile alters the diameter and causes this fault.

Die Abwicklung der Reparatur meines defekten ABS Modul (2003er BMW R1150GS) war sehr einfach, schnell und kompetent. Wenn man auf der Website den Reparaturauftrag erteilt hat, dann sollte man einen Screenshot vom Auftrag machen, denn ich habe keine schriftliche Bestätigung erhalten. Ist aber kein Problem. Achtet auf die Preise - auf der Website ist Netto angegeben, kann überraschen, weil wir es in D nicht gewohnt sind, mit Nettopreisen einzukaufen. Incl Transportversicherung betrugen die Reparaturkosten somit ca. 900 Euro, deutlich günstiger als andere Angebote. Das Gerät würde pünktlich, wie vereinbart, von einer Spedition 2 Tage nach Auftragserteilung an einem Mittwoch abgeholt und nach Spanien geschickt. Am folgenden Dienstag erhielt ich bereits die Info, dass die Reparatur fertig gestellt wurde. Super schnell. Ich habe überwiesen und den Screenshot der Überweisung mitgeschickt. So wurde das ABS bereits am darauf folgenden Mittwoch zurück gesendet und war am Montag wierder zu Hause. Das Ganze dauerte keine zwei Wochen. Das Gerät funktioniert wieder einwandfrei.
