WHY DOES IT FAIL?
Symptoms of a FAULTY JEEP COMPASS ABS
The Jeep Compass has no dedicated list of ABS fault codes visible to the driver: the fault is detected through the symptoms it causes, especially on units from 2014 onwards and on vehicles frequently used on dirt tracks or in the countryside. The most common Jeep Compass ABS symptoms are:
The ABS warning light stays on
The ABS light in the instrument cluster does not go off even when you restart the engine, a sign that the control unit has detected an internal fault.
Hard brake pedal or irregular pedal travel
The pedal is harder to press or its travel differs from usual, due to a drop in pressure in the brake hydraulic circuit.
The car pulls to one side when you brake
One wheel grips before the others, an effect that is noticeable above all under hard braking or on wet tarmac.
The traction or stability warning light comes on
On the Compass it usually comes on together with the ABS light, as both systems share the same electro-hydraulic control unit.
A fault that appears after driving on dirt tracks or fording water
Off-road use of the Compass exposes the wheel sensors and the control unit itself to vibration and moisture which, over time, can loosen connections or damage internal components.
The ABS does not work during emergency braking
The wheels lock despite braking hard because the system has stopped intervening, which lengthens the braking distance.
