WHY DOES IT FAIL?

Symptoms of a Jeep ABS fault

Spotting a Jeep ABS fault in time can prevent accidents and bigger repairs. The Jeep ABS warning light on the dashboard is the warning we see most often at the workshop, but it rarely comes alone: a Jeep ABS sensor that stops sending a signal, a damaged tone wheel or a control unit that misreads the signal it receives can show up in several ways. The most common signs of a faulty ABS on a Jeep are:

ABS warning light on

The Jeep ABS warning light stays on in the instrument cluster, sometimes together with the brake warning light.

Intermittent faults after off-road use

Vibration, knocks and the ingress of mud or moisture from off-road use end up loosening internal connections, and the diagnostic equipment logs code 11, an internal fault in the ABS ECU itself.

Unpredictable braking

The braking system does not respond as it should. DTC reading and testing of every hydraulic and electronic channel.

Loss of communication with the PCM or BCM

The diagnostic equipment logs C0290 – C0292 and your Jeep’s ABS module is isolated from the rest of the vehicle, with symptoms of a brake fault even though the unit is not damaged.

Nuestro cliente y nosotros estamos infinitamente agradecidos.

Well, 3 months ago they repaired a Seat León module for me, and from the very first moment they treated me in a super professional way. They were quick with the repair and practical with collecting the part and delivering it. No problems so far, I recommend them one hundred per cent.

frequently asked questions about Jeep ABS repair

No, it is simply the “sub-fault” format used by some Jeeps, where the main code (for example, wheel speed sensor) comes with a suffix that specifies the exact type of electrical fault within that circuit. It is more detailed diagnostic information, but in practice it still points to an ABS system fault that needs checking in the control unit.

No, your scanner is working correctly: Grand Cherokee WKs of a certain generation use their own code format (C1020, C1027, C102A, etc.), different from the generic OBD-II standard and specific to speed comparisons between the rear wheels. These codes often cause confusion, but they identify genuine ABS module faults just like the more modern codes.

Quite possibly. Off-road use exposes the ABS control unit and its connectors to strong vibration, stone impacts and the ingress of moisture or mud, which can loosen internal connections or damage electronic components over time. This kind of heavy use is one of the most common causes of ABS module failure on the Wrangler.

They belong to the diagnostic code system that predates the OBD-II standard, used on older Jeep generations. For example, «02» and «04» indicate a signal fault in the front sensors, while «09» indicates a fault in the hydraulic pump and «11» an internal fault in the ABS ECU itself.

Repairing it costs roughly a quarter of what a new module would cost. What’s more, at Nito Motor there is no upfront payment: you only pay for the service once the unit has been checked, repaired and tested, with a 1-year warranty.

Yes, it is quite common. Codes such as C0290 – C0292, which indicate lost communication with the PCM or BCM, can appear alongside ABS faults when there is a power supply or electrical network problem affecting several of the vehicle’s modules at once, not just the brake module.

Yes, we work with the entire Jeep range, from classic models such as the Cherokee —including the Cherokee KJ/KK, sold as the Liberty in other markets—, the Grand Cherokee or older-generation Wranglers, to the most recent ones such as the Renegade, Compass, Gladiator, Avenger and Wagoneer S. If your model is not on our list, contact us and we will confirm availability.
