ABS MODULE FOR THE F SERIES
F Series models compatible with this repair
Each card shows the braking system fitted to that variant. The F 800 GS and the F 800 R appear twice because they changed unit midway through production, and the F 650 GS because that name was carried by two different motorcycles: the 652 cc single-cylinder and the 798 cc twin.
We can't find that model. Escríbenos with the module's part number and we'll tell you if we can repair it.

WHY DOES IT FAIL?
Symptoms of a faulty ABS on the F Series
These are the warnings we hear about most from owners of the F 650 GS, F 700 GS, F 800 GS and F 800 R. None of them leaves you without brakes, because here the module doesn’t assist the braking: it leaves you without anti-lock, which is worse to discover.
Warning light permanently on from the moment you switch on the ignition
It doesn’t flash and the self-test never starts: the unit isn’t answering the ECU. When that happens, the sensor isn’t to blame and the module is.
It flashes first and then stays on
The self-test starts and stops halfway. On the F 800 GS and the F 700 GS it is usually the wheel sensor, its cable or the reluctor ring, which is much cheaper to rule out before removing the unit.
The warning light doesn’t go out above 5 km/h
On the F Series the self-test finishes as soon as both wheels turn. If the warning light is still on at walking pace, the system has already logged something and has gone out of service.
You lose the anti-lock function
When the module fails, the system is disabled and the motorcycle brakes without ABS regulation. In everyday riding it can go unnoticed: you find out when braking hard on a wet surface.
Pump hum outside the self-test
The short click when you switch on the ignition is normal. A hum that doesn’t stop with the motorcycle stationary is not: the pump motor keeps trying and ends up failing completely.
Chafed front sensor cable on the F 650 GS
It runs down the fork and takes all the chafing. The 2000 and 2001 models have the sensor shielding unbalanced and are the ones that lose the most signal; from 2002 onwards BMW changed the wiring.
It went out after pressure washing
The jet gets in through the module connector or the front sensor connector. At first it causes faults that go away when it dries; once the corrosion sets in, the warning light no longer goes out at all.
The ABS cuts out when going over a speed bump
A reluctor ring with dried mud between its teeth, or a sensor that has lost its gap with the jolt, sends a signal the module can’t believe and it switches itself off until the next time the ignition is switched on. On the F 800 GS it happens more after off-road tracks than after tarmac.
A single ABS module for the whole F Series
All the ABS units the F Series has been fitted with, from the F 650 GS to the current F 900, are repaired the same way.

2000 – present BMW F Series ABS module
On the F Series, BMW didn’t develop its own ABS: it used the Bosch ABS modules available at the time each motorcycle was built. The first arrived in 2000 with the F 650 GS: it weighed 2.1 kg, the heaviest of them all, and its functions were very basic. Since then each generation has reduced its size and added functions, from the switchable ABS of the F 800 GS to the ABS Pro of the F 750, F 850 and F 900, which takes the motorcycle’s lean angle into account.
Why a single moduleThe size, the part number and the number of functions change, but they are all two-channel Bosch modulators with the same internal architecture: circuit board, valve block and return pump. The repair process is the same for all of them, so we group them into a single BMW F Series ABS Module, with the same price and the same turnaround whatever the year of your motorcycle.
ModelsSingle-cylinder F 650 GS and Dakar, F 650 CS Scarver, F 800 S, ST, R and GT, twin-cylinder F 650 GS and F 700 GS, F 800 GS and Adventure, F 750 GS, F 850 GS and Adventure, F 900 R and XR, and the current F 800 GS, F 900 GS and F 900 GS Adventure.
What fails insideThe board’s tracks and capacitors after fifteen years of thermal cycles, the hydraulic unit valves seized after a winter laid up, the return pump motor and, on the F 650 GS, the connector entry taken over by corrosion.
