WHY DOES IT FAIL?
MITSUBISHI L200 ABS FAULT symptoms
The Mitsubishi L200 doesn’t show the driver a catalogue of ABS fault codes: the fault is detected by the symptoms it causes, made worse by the typical use of this pick-up for farm work, building sites or off-roading. The most common, especially on higher-mileage vehicles, are:
ABS and traction control warning lights permanently on
The ABS warning light comes on in the instrument cluster together with the stability control light and doesn’t go off when the engine is restarted, a sign that the control unit has disabled the electronic assistance due to a serious error.
Less safe braking on mud, gravel or wet tarmac
Without the assistance of the L200 ABS, the wheels lock more easily under emergency braking on slippery ground, increasing the risk of skidding and losing directional control.
Blown Mitsubishi L200 ABS fuse
A voltage spike or an electrical fault can blow the dedicated fuse, leaving the system without power. It is worth checking it before assuming the fault lies in the control unit.
Wheel sensor damaged by mud or branches
The typical farm or off-road use of this pick-up means the sensor wiring can be broken by a branch or mud can build up on the sensor, causing erratic readings.
Micro-cracks on the module’s circuit board
Diesel engine vibration and driving on rough tracks fatigue the internal solder joints on the circuit board over time, interrupting communication with the rest of the vehicle.
The ABS doesn’t intervene under sudden braking
Although the conventional brakes still work, the system no longer intervenes to prevent the wheels from locking, increasing the braking distance in an emergency.
