WHY DOES IT FAIL?

Skoda ABS fault symptoms

Spotting a Skoda ABS fault in time can prevent accidents and bigger repairs. The Skoda ABS light on in the instrument cluster is the warning we hear about most at the workshop, but it rarely comes alone: a Skoda ABS sensor that stops sending a signal, or a control unit that misreads the signal it receives, can show up in several ways. The most common signs of a faulty ABS on a Skoda are:

ABS warning light on

The Skoda ABS light stays on in the instrument cluster and, before looking at the control unit, it is worth checking the fuses in the box above the battery: code 01276 for the hydraulic pump motor (V64) often originates there. If the fuse is fine, or blows again after being replaced, the most likely cause is internal wear of the electric motor, inside the module.

Internal ABS module fault

The scanner logs code 16352 / 01130, an internal electrical or hardware fault in the ABS control unit (J104). It is very common in the ATE MK60 modules fitted to the Octavia II platform and often means the module has to be rebuilt.

Unpredictable braking

The braking system does not respond as it should. DTC reading and testing of every hydraulic and electronic channel.

Loss of communication with the engine control unit

The diagnostic tool logs 01316 / U0121 and the engine control module cannot communicate with your Skoda’s ABS. It may come from the CAN bus wiring, corroded connectors or a battery with a critically low charge, but also from an internal fault in the module itself.

Nuestro cliente y nosotros estamos infinitamente agradecidos.

Well, 3 months ago they repaired a Seat León module for me, and from the very first moment they treated me in a super professional way. They were quick with the repair and practical with collecting the part and delivering it. No problems so far, I recommend them one hundred per cent.

Skoda ABS repair FAQs

The Octavia II is fitted with the ATE MK60 module, a unit known for developing this internal electrical fault over time, generally due to the degradation of components on the circuit board. As it is such a characteristic fault of this platform, rebuilding the module is usually the most effective and proven solution.

This code, confirmed in real Octavia cases, corresponds to an electrical fault in the circuit that does not always show up in the same way, depending on the temperature or vibrations of the vehicle. That is why a one-off diagnosis may not detect it, while the ABS warning light comes on sporadically while driving.

Yes, in many MK60 modules fitted by Skoda, this sensor (related to code 01435 / C1288) is soldered internally to the hydraulic block, so it does not exist as a separate spare part. If it fails, the only real solution is a specialist repair of the complete module.

Not necessarily. It is a very common code after disconnecting the battery, removing the steering wheel or doing a wheel alignment, as the system loses the reference calibration of the steering angle sensor (G85). It is normally solved with a recalibration using a scanner; if it persists afterwards, then it could be a real fault in the module.

It could be, especially if the charge level is critically low, but this code can also be due to wiring problems on the CAN bus, connectors corroded by moisture or an internal fault in the module itself. It is worth ruling out the condition of the battery and the connections first before working on the control unit.

Repairing it costs roughly a quarter of what a new module would cost. What’s more, at Nito Motor there is no upfront payment: you only pay for the service once the unit has been checked, repaired and tested, with a 1-year warranty.

Yes, we work with the whole Skoda range, from classic models such as the Felicia and the Favorit/Forman to the current Octavia, Fabia, Superb, Karoq and Kodiaq, as well as the electric Enyaq and Elroq. If your model is not on our list, contact us and we will confirm availability.
