HBB ABS module

If the brake warning light comes on, the pedal goes hard or you hear the pump running more than it should, it is very likely that the HBB hydraulic brake booster on your Mitsubishi, Toyota or Lexus needs checking. At our technical repair centre we restore it by always checking the complete assembly, so you can brake with the same confidence as on day one. We return it tested and with a 1-year warranty, extendable to 2.
You only pay once your module has been repaired
- Repair in 24/48 h
- No upfront payment
- Up to 2 years’ warranty
- Fixed price, no surprises

What is the HBB hydraulic brake booster?
The brake booster is the system that multiplies the force you apply to the pedal so that braking is easy. In most cars it works with engine vacuum; in the Mitsubishi Montero, the Toyota Land Cruiser and some Lexus models, however, it works with hydraulic pressure: an electric pump fills an accumulator with brake fluid, and that pressure is what helps you brake. This assembly is called HBB.
With use, the pump and accumulator wear and the symptoms start to appear. There is no need to replace it with a new one: at our technical repair centre we fully remanufacture your own HBB and return it tested and ready to fit.
This is how your car warns you that the HBB is failing
If you recognise any of these symptoms, your HBB most likely needs checking:
The brake pedal is very hard
- The car brakes, but you have to press much harder.
- You notice it especially when starting after the car has been parked for a long time.
The warning lights come on and a beep sounds
- Brake and ABS warning lights on, and sometimes the traction or stability one.
- On the Montero, a continuous beep as well.
You hear a strange noise when braking
- An odd sound near the dashboard when you press the pedal.
- It is usually the accumulator, which has lost its charge.
The pump never stops running
- It starts up very often or takes a long time to stop.
- Under hard braking, the assistance arrives late.
Before sending it, rule these out
Some faults light up the same warning lights and aren’t from the HBB. Ask your workshop to check them before removing it and you’ll save yourself a shipment:
- Pump relay, fuse or connector: they are in the car, not in the HBB.
- Low battery: the pump draws a lot of current and a weak battery can make it fail.
- Brake fluid level: if it is low, it also lights up the warning light.
Why trust Nito Motor?
The complete assembly
You send the whole HBB and we repair all of it. That way it doesn’t fail again a few months later because of the part nobody checked.
Your own unit
It keeps its serial number and programming, so nothing needs to be coded when it is fitted. No parts of dubious origin from a breaker’s yard.
Written warranty
1 year on the complete assembly, with no mileage limit, extendable to 2 years when you place your order.
You pay at the end
You only pay once your HBB has been repaired. No upfront payment and a fixed price.
Every unit checked
We mark every part with its own QR code and test it before returning it.
Always a solution
If your HBB can’t be fixed the standard way, we’ll offer you an alternative or return it to you free of charge.
The Lexus HBB variant
Lexus is the Toyota group’s premium range, and its HBB units have internal components and functions that Toyota’s and Mitsubishi’s don’t. Repairing them is more complex, which is why they have their own price.

Frequently asked questions
How do I know if my car has HBB?
It is fitted to the 3rd- and 4th-generation Mitsubishi Montero / Pajero and several Toyota and Lexus 4x4s; you’ll find the full list in the Compatible vehicles tab. If in doubt, send us a photo of the unit’s label with your car’s model and year and we’ll confirm it. Note: the Pajero Sport, the L200 and the Montero Sport use other systems.
What do I need to send?
The complete HBB assembly, without separating the pump: we repair it all together. Plug the connections so the brake fluid doesn’t leak out, as it damages paint and cardboard, and take a photo of the box before sending it.
Does anything need to be programmed when it is fitted?
Nothing needs to be coded: we repair your own unit, which keeps its serial number and programming. When fitting it, your workshop only has to bleed the brake circuit as the manufacturer specifies.
Can you fix just the pump motor for me?
No, we repair the complete assembly. The motor and the accumulator work together and wear on one speeds up wear on the other: if only one is replaced, the fault normally comes back before long.
How long does the repair take?
Between 24 and 48 hours from when we receive your HBB at our technical repair centre. You only pay once it has been repaired.
Can I keep driving with a faulty HBB?
The car still brakes, but without assistance: you need much more force on the pedal and it takes more distance to stop. Only use it when absolutely necessary, with care, and take it to the workshop as soon as possible.
And what if my HBB can’t be repaired?
If we can’t repair it and don’t offer you a solution, we don’t charge you anything: we return your part to you at no cost whatsoever.
My Montero had an accumulator inspection campaign. Is that related?
Mitsubishi ran accumulator inspection campaigns on the 3rd-generation Pajero in some markets. If you think your car may have been affected, check with the dealer first. If the campaign has already been carried out or the fault is something else, we can repair your HBB.
Why does the Lexus HBB have a different price?
Because it is a variant in its own right: as premium models, their units have different internal components and functions and repairing them is more complex. Choose Lexus in the product options and you’ll see its price.
Does the repair include a warranty?
Yes. The repair comes with a 12-month certified warranty on the complete assembly, with no mileage limit, and you can extend it to 24 months when you place your order.
Important:
- Nito Motor S.L. will only be liable for the correct operation of the module during that period.
- Nito Motor S.L. will not be liable for the cost of fitting and removing the module during the warranty period; this cost will be borne by the workshop or the end customer.
- The warranty will be void if there are clear signs that the module contains any fluid other than brake fluid (water, cleaning solvent…). We recommend never cleaning the module with a pressure washer.
HBB fault codes
If your workshop has connected the car to the diagnostic tool and any of these codes appears, the fault is very likely in the HBB:
Mitsubishi: pump motor not turning or motor circuit open
Mitsubishi: pressure not reached or not maintained. Accumulator, weak motor or leak
Toyota / Lexus: pump motor locked or no ground
Toyota / Lexus: the pump runs too long without reaching pressure. Worn motor, accumulator or leak
Toyota / Lexus: pressure switch or pressure sensor
Toyota / Lexus: low accumulator pressure. Equivalent to Mitsubishi's 57
Mitsubishi: pump motor relay. Usually in the car, not in the HBB
Toyota / Lexus: pump motor relay or its circuit, in the car
The relay codes (53, 54 and C1253) usually point to the car's wiring, not the HBB: check it before removing the unit. If you're unsure about your code, write to us and we'll help you interpret it.
What part numbers does the HBB have?
We can't find that part number. Escríbenos and we'll tell you if we can repair your module.

Nuestro cliente y nosotros estamos infinitamente agradecidos.
