WHY DOES IT FAIL?

SEAT ABS fault symptoms

Spotting a SEAT ABS fault in time can prevent accidents and bigger repairs. The SEAT ABS light on in the instrument cluster is the warning we hear about most at the workshop, but it rarely comes alone: a SEAT ABS sensor that stops sending a signal, or a control unit that misreads the signal it receives, can show up in several ways. The most common signs of a faulty ABS on a SEAT are:

ABS warning light on

The SEAT ABS light stays on in the instrument cluster and, before looking at the control unit, it is worth checking the maxi fuses located above the battery: code 01276 for the hydraulic pump motor (V64) often originates there. If the fuse is fine, or blows again after being replaced, the fault is inside the module.

Internal ABS module fault

The scanner logs code 16352 / 01130, an internal electrical fault in the ABS control unit (J104) that points to the circuit board of the control unit itself, not to a sensor or external wiring.

Unpredictable braking

The braking system does not respond as it should. DTC reading and testing of every hydraulic and electronic channel.

Loss of communication with the engine control unit

The diagnostic tool logs 01316 / U0121 and the engine control module cannot communicate with your SEAT’s ABS. It may come from the CAN bus wiring, corroded connectors or a voltage drop, but also from an internal fault in the module itself.

TYPICAL SEAT ABS FAULTS WE REPAIR

Most common SEAT DTC codes

00283 / C0035

Electrical fault or implausible reading in the front left speed sensor (G47)

00285 / C0040

Electrical fault or implausible reading in the front right speed sensor (G45)

00290 / C0045

Electrical fault or implausible reading in the rear left speed sensor (G46)

00287 / C0050

Electrical fault or implausible reading in the rear right speed sensor (G44)

01276

Fault in the ABS hydraulic pump motor (V64). It is usually caused by blown fuses (check the maxi fuses above the battery) or worn motor brushes

16352 / 01130

Internal electrical fault in the ABS control unit (J104). In the vast majority of cases the module has to be sent off for rebuilding or replaced entirely

00301

Problem with the ABS return pump (V39)

01435 / C1288

Implausible reading from brake pressure sensor 1 (G201). In SEAT's MK60 modules, this sensor is soldered inside the hydraulic block, which makes repairing it more complicated

00778

Fault or lack of calibration in the steering angle sensor (G85). It is a classic code that appears after changing the car's battery, doing a wheel alignment or removing the steering wheel

01316 / U0121

The engine control module has no communication with the ABS module. It generally points to a problem in the CAN bus wiring, corroded connectors or a severe voltage drop in the electrical system

Nuestro cliente y nosotros estamos infinitamente agradecidos.

Well, 3 months ago they repaired a Seat León module for me, and from the very first moment they treated me in a super professional way. They were quick with the repair and practical with collecting the part and delivering it. No problems so far, I recommend them one hundred per cent.

SEAT ABS repair FAQs

It is possible, and in fact it is one of the first things worth checking: the maxi fuses located above the battery are a common cause of this code. However, if the fuse blows again after being replaced, or if the fuse is fine and the code persists, the problem usually lies in worn brushes in the pump motor itself, inside the module.

Replacing means buying a new module (much more expensive) and, in many cases, programming it specifically for your car, whereas rebuilding consists of repairing your own module by addressing the internal electrical fault that causes this code. A rebuild keeps the vehicle’s original coding and avoids the extra cost of a new unit.

Yes, in the MK60 modules fitted by SEAT, this sensor (related to code 01435 / C1288) is soldered directly inside the hydraulic block, so it does not exist as a separate spare part. This means that, when this component fails, the only real way to fix it is a specialist repair of the complete module, not simply replacing a single part.

Not necessarily. This code appears very often after disconnecting the battery, doing a wheel alignment or removing the steering wheel, as the system loses the calibration of the steering angle sensor (G85). In most cases it is solved with a recalibration using a scanner; if it persists after calibration, then it could point to a real fault in the module.

It can be due to several causes: a problem in the CAN bus wiring, connectors corroded by moisture or a voltage drop in the electrical system, but it can also originate from an internal fault in the module itself that prevents it from processing those signals correctly. A full diagnosis should first rule out the wiring and the power supply before working on the control unit.

Repairing it costs roughly a quarter of what a new module would cost. What’s more, at Nito Motor there is no upfront payment: you only pay for the service once the unit has been checked, repaired and tested, with a 1-year warranty.

Yes, we work with the whole SEAT range, including models no longer in production such as the Córdoba, Arosa, Marbella, Toledo or Inca, as well as the current Ibiza, León, Arona, Ateca and Tarraco. If your model is not on our list, contact us and we will confirm availability.
